Ingredients Used to Cook (Almost) Anything...

What are the most important food items to have in your house? The top 7 ingredients I think every kitchen should have are: pasta, rice, uniodized salt of your preference, pepper, olive oil, flour, and sugar.

Everything you cook should be seasoned to taste.  Generally speaking this means add salt and pepper to whatever it is and make it to your preference.  I like the flavor of olive oil so I use that oil to cook any savory dish.  Other good oils with less of a flavor that I enjoy because they have a high smoking temperature are safflower and sunflower.

Bread crumbs are good to coat any poultry, meat, fish, and veggie. Frying and baking chicken with bread crumbs is one of my favorite meals to fall back on.  Rice and pasta are good to have as side dishes or to make as whole meal for one, or for many, people on a budget.

Flour and butter melted together make a roux.  This is one of the best thickening agents you can use.  Any sort of cookie, cake, pie crust, bar, etc. main ingredients is flour and sugar.  Sugar also can be used to get rid of too much salt flavor.  Eggs are always needed in any baking package that you buy in the store.  You can make whole meals out of eggs.  Most breakfast foods you make involve eggs.  Baking soda is needed in most cookie recipes.

My complete list of the basic kitchen ingredients is:
  • Pasta
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Pasta
  • Baking Soda
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Oil (Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, or Safflower)
